We posted back in May about the use of red light cameras on Long Island. Last week Newsday published an article that highlighted a few Long Island motorists’ recent experiences with red light cameras.
One reader, Elene Contegiacomo of New Hyde Park, successfully beat a red light ticket in court with the help of her husband. Any traffic lawyer could learn a thing or two from this couple, who established through photographs that their vehicle did not make a right on red at the intersection of Lakeville Road and Union Turnpike.
The Contegiacomos obtained a copy of the actual video of their alleged violation, where they discovered that another vehicle of a similar make and color had actually made a right on red without first coming to a complete stop.
Motorists can obtain more information on Red Light Summonses through the Nassau County Traffic and Parking Violations Agency and the Suffolk County Red Light Safety Program web sites.
If you want actual video of a violation, visit the Drive Safely in Nassau page in Nassau County and the Cite Web page in Suffolk County. You will need your summons numbers for either of these sites.
